What is Literacy in a Mathematics Classroom?
Until recently, most did not consider literacy and reading comprehension necessary skills in the mathematics classroom. However, the adoption of Common Core State Standards has emphasized the importance of these skills in every classroom. Students need to be able to learn how to read complex texts in order to prepare them for college or vocational reading. This presents mathematics teachers with the unique opportunity to develop these skills and better prepare students for their future.
